Wounded Syrians transported to local Lebanon hospitals

The Daily Star 7/11/2011

BEIRUT: Two wounded Syrians who crossed into Lebanon Sunday and Monday are receiving treatment at local hospitals in north Lebanon, a security source told The Daily Star.

On Monday, a Syrian who was wounded in the hands and knees was transported by the Lebanese Red Cross from the border area of al-Qaa, in Baalbek, to the state-run Halba Hospital in Akkar, north Lebanon, the source said.

A similar incident occurred Sunday, the source said, when the Lebanese Red Cross transported a wounded Syrian from the border area of al-Qaa, in Baalbek, to Salam Hospital in Qobeiyat, also in Akkar. The patient is in critical condition.

Hundreds of Syrians have fled into Lebanon as a result of unrest in their country. The U.N. says over 3,000 Syrians, mostly civilians, have been killed in a crackdown by Damascus against protesters calling for reforms in their country. Syrian authorities deny targeting civilians, blaming the deaths on “armed gangs.”
